CM Punk UFC News: Fighter Finally Signs Deal To See Action In The Octagon; Debuts In 2015

News reported that Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk, in the WWE, has signed a multi-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was confirmed that he will see action inside the Octagion in 2015, about six to seven months away.

The 36-year-old Brooks, was not definitive as to his weight class yet but said that he will most likely fall in the middleweight or welterweight class. CM Punk said in a UFC news by ESPN that he plans to fight at middleweight (185 pounds) but is still open to going down to welterweight (170 pounds).

Brooks said in a report by Yahoo! Sports, "I have a background in kempo and I've been doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for a long time. This is my new career, 100-percent. I'm going to go full steam ahead, all systems go after today, and it's going to be fun."

"I have nothing but respect for everybody here at the UFC, everybody who steps in the Octagon to fight. And when it's all said and done, when I'm finished, everybody's going to have to respect me because I have come here to fight," he said.

CM Punk added more about his UFC deal: "My professional wrestling days are over, it's awesome to be here. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time."

He continued, "I felt like it was now or never. I have a limited window most fighters don't have. I'm either here to win or get my ass kicked."

Brooks previously retired from the WWE, and made waves after lashing at Vince McMahon and the organization as to how he was treated during his eight-year stint. He said that he will never return to the WWE.

Currently, Brooks is under the supervision of Rener Gracie of the famous Gracie family.

UFC President Dana White said in the same report by ESPN, "He wanted to fight here. He wanted to give it a shot, so we gave him an opportunity. It's not like Brock Lesnar. We're not going to throw the kitchen sink at him. Lesnar had a wrestling background. [CM Punk] is going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 -- something like that."

White added about CM Punk's UFC deal, "He's been coming to fights for a long time and after his WWE contract was up, he called me and said he wanted to give it a shot. I said, 'All right. We'll give you a shot.'"
