John Legend And Wife Chrissy Teigen Feed Protestors With Food Trucks In NYC After Controversial Rulings In The Cases Of Eric Garner And Michael Brown

The decision not to indict the Ferguson, MO police officer who shot and killed unarmed teen African American Michael Brown has incited protests around the country. Just over a week later, protests grew again when a New York police was not indicted for killing an unarmed African American man named Eric Garner using an illegal chokehold.

Now, singer John Legend and model/food blogger wife Chrissy Teigen have decided to help support remaining protestors by hiring food trucks to provide food for anyone who is marching or gathering for the cause.

Through the social media campaign #OperationHelporHush, Legend and Teigen provided protestors in New York City with items like empanadas, tacos, and macaroni and cheese via several food trucks at locations such as Union Square and Lincoln Square in Manhattan. Approximately 3,000 protestors were served at the Union Square site.

#OperationHelporHush was created to raise money in order to provide necessary supplies to protestors, including travel and food. The organization also works to support the residents of areas where protests are occurring, such as Ferguson, Missouri.

Although the group's initial goal was to raise $1,500 so that sandwiches could be provided to protestors in Ferguson. According to The Guardian, that goal was met within an hour and the organization has now raised tens of thousands of dollars.

"As the money came in, we just pushed it into the streets," said Charles Wade, one of the group's organizers, in an interview with The Washington Post.

The support of Legend and Teigen is not the first time the celebrity couple has gotten involved in cause associated with food.

The couple recently teamed up with FEED Projects, a company that sells products in order to raise money to end hunger around the world.

"This holiday, @johnlegend and I are coming together with @feedprojects to help end world hunger," wrote Teigen on Instagram. "Our FEED bags, bracelets and scarf will provide 1,120 meals. How many meals will you give? #FEEDtogether www.feedprojects.com."
