Doctor Who And Sherlock Theme Park Costing £2bn To Be Created By Paramount Pictures And BBC Worldwide; Due To Open Near North Kent In 2020 [PHOTO]

A "Doctor Who" and  "Sherlock" theme park is in the making. According to The Guardian, BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of BBC, has struck a deal with a Kuwait-backed property developer to create a theme park and holiday resort costing £2bn by the Thames estuary in north Kent.

The deal was made in partnership with Paramount Pictures. BBC reports that the London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) has signed a development agreement with BBC Worldwide, effectively letting it feature the corporation's intellectual property at the London Paramount Entertainment Resort.

David Testa, director of LRCH, stated, "We are delighted to bring the world's leading public service broadcaster on board this project. The BBC has played an instrumental role in shaping the British entertainment industry for nearly a century, creating some of the most iconic and cherished characters on TV and radio.

...It seems only right therefore that its programs will be present at the new London Paramount Entertainment Resort, which will combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture."

BBC Worldwide live events director Stephen Davies said of the theme park project, "We're always looking for opportunities to extend fans' enjoyment of their favorite shows and the idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture."

BBC reports that the park will be situated on a 900-acre brownfield site next to Ebbsfleet International railway station, and is expected to create up 27,000 jobs. Current plans for the park and resort include Hollywood-inspired rides, a water attraction, a 2,000-seat theatre and 5,000 hotel rooms.

As of now, it is presumed that BBC's most popular programs will be featured, including "Doctor Who," "Sherlock," and "Top Gear," but the remaining shows to be featured are still unknown.
