The former "American Idol" contestant and current Charlotte Bobcats cheerleader, Brittany Kerr has finally decided to go public with an apology.

Kerr issued a statement through her publicist today basically apologizing for her cheating scandal and for those she inadvertently hurt.

The scandal arose last week when she was spotted having a good time when she bumped into country singer Jason Aldean. People said that the two hit it off immediately and then eventually danced, flirted and kissed. Although she's single, he's married with two kids. Kerr told her friends afterwards that she had no idea she was married. However, after a short break from the public eye - even deleting her Twitter account - she has decided to come clean. 

She told E! News this morning, "The actions I portrayed recently were not a representation of my true character, but a lapse of judgment on my part. I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone that has been affected by this including my friends and family."

Though it's not clear what her statement will actually do, it's definitely a step in the right direction. It is necessary for her to take a portion of the responsibility, whether she feels that it's unjust or not. 

Jason Aldean also owned up to his part on a Facebook post.
