Spotify and Google Play Music All Access can be mistaken as one and the same when you remove the branding and interface variation. These places basically provide music. But there are some minor differenced in these services that can change the way you choose your music.

Spotify VS. Google Play Music

Both these two streaming services, Spotify and Google Play Music, could easily be considered the best in the business. One should note, however, that Spotify lacks one very important thing: Taylor Swift. The pop star has pulled off her music from the site.

Nonetheless, with Spotify’s premium service, you can listen to as much music as you want ad-free. You can even play music offline. The premium version of Google Play Music All Access also allows you to listen to unlimited songs free ad-free for the same price as Spotify.

The Guardian, however, bills Spotify as the biggest subscription streaming music service available. The British newspaper also noted that it has 40 million active users and 10 million paying subscribers.

It’s Google competitor, Google Play Music would need to enlarge its access in order to be able to compete. Spotify at the moment has the edge when it comes to reach, thanks to a desktop application available for PC and Mac that will allow you to connect to the music you’re listening to from your mobile or tablet to the computer.

Google Play Music has some critics as well:

“I had mixed feelings about Google Play Music when it launched last May [2013] with fewer perks than a service like Spotify. But if you prefer Google’s online app-related modus operandi, Google Play Music lets you upload up to 20,000 songs of your choosing (accessible across all devices),” Matt Peckham of TIME says.

Nonetheless though, Google Play Music also has an edge. Users can add as much music as they want in their own library. Spotify’s way of enabling you to store your music is limited in features compared to Google Play Music.
