Gender Gap In Salaries At Sony Pictures Is The Latest Leaked Information By Hackers

In the latest saga of the cyber attack of Sony Pictures, one point was reflected; women actresses are paid less than their male counterparts despite them being more bankable actors than the males.

Telegraph reported that email exchanges between executives showed that Jennifer Lawrence receives a lesser compensation that her co-stars Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner and Bradley Cooper in the 'American Hustle' movie.

The compensation was in the form of 'Points' earned that will stem from how the film will fare in the box office.

Articles about the latest leak revealed that Andrew Gumpert, president of business affairs and administration for Columbia Pictures raised the concern to Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Doug Belgrad, president of SPE motion picture group. Sony owns Columbia Pictures.

Earlier North Korea was being blamed for the attack due to the film that Sony Pictures has lined up which tells of the assassination plot against the country's leader.

Quoting a statement from an unidentified spokesman of North Korea's National Defense Commission, the source stated, "We do not know where in America the Sony Pictures is situated and for what wrongdoings it became the target of the attack, nor (do) we feel the need to know about it."

The attack was so widespread that the hackers have been revealing the salaries of executives in the studio and the email exchanges leaked online such as unflattering jokes about US President Obama and one executive calling actress and director Angelina Jolie a "spoiled brat."

The hacking at Sony Pictures started on Nov. 24 and according to New York Times article, is not only aiming at stealing data but looks like a form of retaliation.

Sony Pictures was not the first company to have been affected by hacking; earlier Target, Home Depot and Staples also had problems with their computer security.
