Korea Air Chairman's Daughter Cho Hyun-Ah Offers Apology After 'Nut Rage' Leads To 11-Minute Delay Of Transatlantic Flight

Cho Hyun-Ah, the daughter of Korean Air's CEO who was previously furious over the way she was served nuts, appeared on Sunday to apologize to the cabin crew chief whom she kicked off a flight from New York to South Korea. The Korean Air nut rage sparked a media frenzy and public clamor to have her punished for her abusive acts.

BBC News reported that Cho Hyun-Ah, who was a top executive at Korean Air, was seated in first class at the time of the incident on December 5. Reportedly, a crew member served her macadamia nuts in a bag, instead of a bowl, to which she reacted in a fury.

She called for head steward Park Chang-jin, and forced him and another female flight attendant to kneel before her. Next, she shouted for the crew to stop the plane.

Reportedly, Cho Hyun-Ah said, "Make contact (with air traffic control) right now to stop the plane. I'm not going to let this plane go."

According to Park, he could not refuse the "owner's daughter" and had to have the plane stopped. As a result, the departure from New York was delayed by around 20 minutes. The plane arrived 11 minutes late in Seoul, South Korea. There are still pending investigations to determine whether Cho violated air safety regulations by commanding the plane to return to the gate.

According to Park, Korean Air attempted to persuade him to change his story.

The Korean Air nut rage was initially defended by the company, with Cho Hyun-Ah initially denying that she forced the crew member to kneel.

Park said, "People who haven't experienced [such abuse] will not understand that feeling of being insulted and shamed." He stated that he left the plane and had to return to South Korea on a different flight.

In an NDTV article, Cho Hyun-Ah resigned from all her post on December 9. On Sunday, she personally visited Park to apologize for her previous actions.

Her father and CEO of the company, Cho Yang-Ho, also appeared on a televised press conference last Friday to apologize for the Korean Air nut rage. He said, "I failed to raise the child properly. It's my fault."
