Fall is the 'Solo Style' Season: Where Did All the Idol Groups Go?

Solo artists are beginning to shine as the popularity of idol groups are beginning to calm down.

When you take a look at the most recent music charts, there is a variety of genres. However, it is the strangest thing that idol groups have completely disappeared from the music charts. Instead, solo artists from idol groups filled up the spots on the music charts.

According to the various famous music charts that show the best representation of music popularity in Korea, Brown Eyed Girls member Gain, Big Bang's G-Dragon, and Brown Eyed Soul's Naul are at the top of the list.

G-Dragon, especially, has been maintaining his spots in the top after releasing his mini-album One of a Kind containing the title song "Crayon", "Missing You", "That XX" and others, which have all been in the top.

Gain is also in the spotlight after her solo comeback with "Bloom" and its provocative music video that drew a lot of attention. Naul's "Memory of the Wind" was strong enough to knock down G-Dragon's song.

In addition, tvN drama "Respond 1997" that ended last month contained a remake of a popular song "All For You." The remake version is sung by Seo In Guk and Jung Eunji, the main characters of the drama gained a significant amount of popularity through their roles. Jung Eunji is also a member of an idol group called A Pink.

Orange Caramel, a unit formed from After School, is currently in the top 10 as well with "Lipstick." Talented artists like Epik High, 10cm, K-Will and Huh Gak are also in the top 10.

Epik High's "It's Cold" rose to the number 1 spot as soon as it was released on October 9.

Also, 10cm released their 2nd album 2.0 on October 10 and is currently on Epik High's tail with "Fine Thank You and You?"

Since the weather is changing from hot to cold, people seem to be drawn more towards slow medium tempo songs instead of fast dance songs. The flow of the music industry is changing.

However, as news of idol group comeback was released, the spotlight is expected to change soon once again. TVXQ returned on October 5 with "Catch Me" and miss A is also scheduled to come back next week.

The musical colors in K-Pop are getting more and more diverse as idol group members begin their solo careers. K-Pop will soon see a new wave of stars that are scheduled to come our way. Only time will tell what the rest of 2012 will look for K-Pop.
