College Basketball Player Lauren Hill Cancer Fight Moves to Hospice Care

College basketball player Lauren Hill is fighting inoperable brain cancer. The Mt. St. Joseph freshman basketball player  has helped to raise more than $324,000 for cancer research and treatment The terminally-ill basketball player is now getting hospice care at home. Hospice care will provide additional in-home assistance.

On Christmas Eve, Lauren's mother, Lisa Hill, family took to Facebook to update well-wishers, saying "Lauren is not any worse off than she was a month ago," but "her headaches have flared up a little more than usual."

"Lauren is still having good moments and bad ones. Yesterday she had a panic attack and she was having trouble breathing. Scared the crap out of me. I called the hospice nurse and they came out right away. Thankfully it was just a panic attack from the pain and heavy feeling in her chest after she woke up from a nap. After some meds and oxygen she was much better," Lauren's mother wrote.

The 19-year-old college freshman came to national prominence on Nov. 2 when she played in a Division III basketball game despite the tumor. Lauren Hill She made layups for the first and last baskets of the game.

Lauren Hill is hoping to raise $1 million by New Year's to go towards for research which could hopefully find a cure that would wipe out her rare pediatric brain cancer, DIPG.

Lauren's family also attached a video they made for National Hospice Awareness, saying "Some folks have such a hard time with the word Hospice. We see it as extra players on our medical team that keep a closer eye on Lauren's progress for the doctor. We are so thankful to have their help and support. Best part is they come to us and we don't have to drive anywhere. Lazy I know, but no more 4 hour clinic visits is sweet."

Lauen Hill's story became a global movement.

On Sunday, Lauren Hill lived out her dream to play basketball for Mount Saint Joe.
