Jesse Ventura Conspiracy Case; ‘American Sniper’ Widow Appeals Jesse Ventura Defamation Verdict

Jesse Ventura is in the middle of his own conspiracy case. Taya Kyle, the widow of author Chris Kyle, who wrote "American Sniper," will appeal a $1.8-million defamation verdict that found for Jesse Ventura against her husband's estate.

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura claimed in court that Chris Kyle lied about him in his bestselling autobiography, "American Sniper." In American Sniper, Kyle claimed that he punched Ventura after the former wrestler allegedly said the SEALs "deserve to lose a few." Ventura took to court to say the anecdote was not true. Ventura claimed that the story hurt his reputation among SEALs. He also said it hindered earning potential as an entertainer and military personality.

Ventura's friends from the bar testified that they saw no confrontation and saw no evidence that the former wrestler was punched.

David Bradley Olsen, Ventura's lawyer, said the legal team successfully proved Kyle's writing "was a lie" in the eyes of the law at the time of the decision.

In an 8-2 decision in July, a federal jury awarded Ventura $1.8 million in damages. Kyle's estate tried to get the verdict thrown out, but the just who presided over the case rejected the bid.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Taya, the "American Sniper" author's widow and the executor of his estate, filed a notice of the appeal with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The notice of appeal doesn't specify the arguments the Kyle estate will make.

Taya claims insurance only covers $500,000 of the nearly $2 million awarded to Ventura.

Earlier this month, the WWE Hall of Famer sued HarperCollins, for publishing and promoting the story. The the book's publisher pulled the chapter from the book after the defamation verdict.

"She's making millions right now. She's already made millions off the book. ... She's not hurting. She's doing speaking engagements throughout the country, traveling all over ... She probably has more money than I do," Ventura told Minnesota's WCCO Radio.

Kyle died in a 2013 shooting incident in Texas.

The film that was adapted from his book, "American Sniper," which was directed by Clint Eastwood and starred Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, opened in movie theaters on Christmas.Hearing dates have not been set.
