The Most Expensive City To Spend New Year's Eve 2014 May Surprise You

Some might assume that the most expensive city to spend New Year's Eve 2014 is New York City, but prepare to be surprised: Travelmag.com is calling New Orleans the most expensive city to enjoy New Year's this year.

"New Orleans is a hot destination and it is a supply and demand market we are in. We are 99 percent occupied on Wednesday and Thursday and we are one of the hottest destinations in the country and we are listed as one of the top destinations in the world," said Mark Romig with the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporations.

According to travelmag.com, hotels in New Orleans over the New Year's 2014 holiday costs almost $360 per night. That's almost 300 percent more than off-peak rates. According to WWLTV.com, that means the Southern city beat places like Atlantic City and New York City (second and third on the list, respectively) for top spot on the expensive hotel list.

"It is not unusual to see those kind of rates, but you have to remember New Orleans has great price points for all types of attractions. We have restaurants, lounges with minimal to no cover charge with great music."

But there are ways to beat the spiking prices, like staying outside of the city.

"It is like any other state in the country," said Jamie Bellanger, who is visiting from Denver. "You stay right in the middle of the tourist trap, you are going to pay more money. If you shop around and find some place outside the area, the prices are good."
