While everyone is busy celebrating Christmas last Tuesday, spokesperson of Tim Burton confirmed that the "Big Eyes" director and his partner for 13 years Helena Bonham Carter have indeed ended their relationship.

The former couple had "separated amicably" earlier this year and "have continued to be friends and co-parent their ¬children," Fox News reports.

While this may come as a surprise to many, an alleged source of The New York Post claimed that the split actually happened a year ago.

In fact, Burton was previously photographed kissing an unidentified woman who is not Carter in North London in September of last year.

Representative of the "Big Eyes" director however, denied allegations that Tim Burton had been unfaithful explaining that they were just having fun with a group of friends during that time.

However, according to the said sources of the publication "Tim and Helena have been living separate lives for [more than] a year, and since they separated, they have both had other lovers. The separation announcement was made saying they'd split earlier this year, but they have been living apart for much longer."

 "Both parties are happy with the situation. It is perfectly amicable," the source added despite rumors saying that Bonham Carter is in despair about the split.

"Big Eyes" director Tim Burton met Helena Bonham Carter in the set of 2001's "Planet of the Apes." The two worked in a number of projects that include "Sweeney Todd," 2010's "Alice in Wonderland" and is now currently working in the sequel of the latter's film.

The former couple was called "Mr. and Mrs. Mad Hatter" in UK after deciding to buy two houses next to each other living separately despite sharing a daughter and a son. Later on the two joined their separate houses.

"It really is a great idea. You never have to compromise emotionally or feel invaded," the "Alice in Wonderland" actress once said.
