Can A New Vodka Drink Mixed With Coconut Water Prevent Hangovers? Here Are The First Reactions To VOCO Which Goes Nationwide In 2015

A new vodka drink mixed with coconut water will go nationwide in 2015. Can VO|CO prevent hangovers? Here are the first reactions to the vodka and coconut water drink.

According to New York Daily News, VO|CO is 5.5% alcohol, meaning each 12-ounce serving will give you the same buzz as a beer or wine cooler. It's manufactured in Indiana from "triple distilled vodka made from grain," and company representatives say the beverage doesn't contain artificial colors or flavors and doesn't require a mixer or chaser.

The Daily News Taste Kitchen speculated that the vodka and coconut water drink mixture could prevent hangovers; coconut water is full of electrolytes and many drink the tropical beverage to cure next-day headaches and dehydration.

But the publication says the drink has some strange properties: "The cloudy mixture has the pale yellow color of a urine sample and the smell of a tropical beach vacation gone awry."

"No need to even take a first sip," said one Newser. "The strong smell alone is enough to make you gag."

"It can't decide whether it wants to be a piña colada or a sports drink," said another taster. "It looks cloudy and smells disgusting. But it tastes OK - and if it really could help prevent hangovers, I might give it another shot at the bar if it was sweetened and poured over ice."

The drink evoked memories of Club Med, cheap flights to the Caribbean, suntan oil and "Gilligan's Island," the publication notes.

But Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio seems to love the drink; she was unveiled as official spokesperson for the alcoholic coconut beverage, according to The Daily Mail.

On Instagram as she captioned a picture saying: "So excited to be the official spokesperson for@vocodrink! Pure Coconut Water mixed with Vodka in a delicious ready to drink beverage! #voco #coconutwater #vodka"

VO|CO launched this year in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
