Korean Air Nut Rage Updates: Scandal Not Over Yet As More Officials Arrested For Leaking Information

After the initial Korean Air nut rage incident earlier this month, four more South Korean officials will be punished for improper conduct resulting to leaked information.

The Star reported that Cho Hyun-ah, daughter of Korean Air's chairman, during the Korean Air nut rage, forced the airplane to return to the gate as it was preparing to take off from New York to South Korea on December 5. She allegedly demanded that flight attendants kneel before her before removing the chief flight attendant from the flight simply because she was served macadamia nuts, which she did not ask for, in a bag and not on a plate.

The transport ministry was criticized after officials were shown to have leaked information and other improper acts were committed during the investigation.

One transport ministry official, surnamed Kim, was arrested on December 26 after reports surfaced that he leaked information about the transport ministry's investigation to Yeo, a current executive of the company. The leak was allegedly made through text messages and telephone conversations. Public attorneys are looking to arrest Yeo after he was suspected to have caused airline employees to cover up the incident. The official has reportedly been forwarded to a detention facility in Seoul after a local court issued an arrest warrant for him. Kim worked at Korean Air for 15 years before transferring jobs at the transport ministry.

Other officials were also discovered to have been involved in allowing the 57-year-old Yeo to participate in the interrogation of the flight attendant who was kicked off the flight, while other first-class passengers, who were sitting with Cho at the time and allegedly witnessed the threats and assault, were not questioned. The public were also enraged after knowing that majority of the investigators from the transport ministry formerly worked at Korean Air, the biggest airline in the country.

Cho was relieved of her duties by her father after the scandal. Cho and her father apologized for the Korean Air nut rage afterwards.

On December 30, a court in Seoul issued a warrant of arrest for Cho. Boston Globe reported that the transport ministry would sanction Korean Air for Yeo's actions after the Korean Air nut rage.
