President Obama Closes Out Hawaiian Vacation In Impromptu Ukulele Session With Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder

Okay, they probably didn't jam. Though I'm sure Eddie Vedder can figure out all the chords to most of President Obama's favorite Al Green tunes. Reports are coming in that President Barack Obama ended his Hawaii vacation by hanging out with Pearl Jam's lead singer, lyricist and occasional guitarist Eddie Vedder.

NBC News reported that President Obama took his daughters, Sasha and Malia, for a short visit with Vedder and his family in Kailua, Hawaii. According to reports, the Obamas and the Vedders are friends. Eddie Vedder played a Florida fundraiser for Obama's re-election in 2012.

Eddie Vedder is well known to fans, including this writer, as a progressive leaning rock spokesman. Pearl Jam took on, well, tried to take on Ticketmaster and have never shied from addressing political subjects, usually distilled into personal pieces, in both their music and public statements. Sometimes just with the T-shirts they wore on stage.

Obama started out as a community organizer in Chicago to rise to the biggest seat in government. He came to the White House on progressive promises. He feted Paul McCartney, sang "Let's Get Together," in public no less, was recently interviewed by Dave Grohl for his HBO cross-country tour of recording studios tour and closed out "The Colbert Report" in Stephen Colbert's seat, thankfully not wearing his tie.

The Vedder visit came on the last day of Obama's two-week vacation in a rented house on Oahu, not far from Vedder's place. According to the report, Obama hit the beach on Saturday. He also visited the cemetery where his mother's father is buried and visited his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.

The Obamas come back to Washington today. I wonder if Eddie presented the president with a lei.
