January Arctic Blast Will Hit The Midwest And East Coast This Week, Cold Temperatures Will Push Farther South And East Than Before [PHOTO]

The coldest weather of the season is expected to arrive this week, and is scheduled to hit both the East and the Midwest. According to Weather.com, two rounds of Arctic cold will move through much of the U.S. this week.

The first blast will move in behind Winter Storm Frona, and begins in the Plains on Sunday and into the Midwest on Monday. High temperatures will be 25 degrees below average.

The second blast will be even colder, and will push farther south and east. It will begin Tuesday, and a reinforcing shot of cold air will surge south and east reaching the East Coast and South by Thursday. Temperatures will be roughly 35 degrees below average, and Chicago may see a subzero high on Thursday.

Accuweather reports that it is possible northern New England may also see subzero temperatures. Highs may be in the single digits across upstate New York and central New England with night time lows well below zero. Highs are believed to be in the 20s on multiple days from Boston to New York City and Philadelphia.

What's worse, gusty winds will be accompanying the colder weather. Wind chill values are expected to be below zero for much of the Midwest and Northeast overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning and in the single digits for parts of the Southeast.

The chill will move south, too. Fox News reports that Atlanta will see low temperatures down to about 15 degrees Monday and Tuesday.

However, the cold won't last forever.  AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson stated, "Rather than the pattern lock in for the remainder of the month, it looks like temperatures will again moderate at mid-month from the Central states to the East."

So far, no snowstorms are scheduled, either. Thankfully, this means that those traveling should be able to continue as usual.
