K-Pop Crossover: 2NE1 Rapper CL Spotted In Annual Mammoth's North American Crossword Puzzle

Lee "CL" Chaerin has yet to make her American debut, but that didn't stop the 2NE1 leader from appearing on the Annual Mammoth Crossword puzzle.

First spotted by YouTuber Awkward Luc in the Edmonton Journal, the Annual Mammoth Crossword is an annual year-end crossword puzzle that is published across US and Canadian newspapers. According to The Post & Mail, approximately 100 clues reflect news event and pop culture of the past year.

"Stage name for S. Korean singer Lee Chaerin," said the crossword puzzle clue.

"The biggest question about this is, did it just get picked by the newspaper randomly, or was it actually a promotion by her team," pondered Luc in a recent YouTube video.

In November, it was announced by record label YG Entertainment that CL would be making a solo debut in the US early next year.

"I'm very happy about advancing into America and think I'm going to work a lot with Diplo," CL said at the 2014 Style Icon Awards, where she was accompanied by Diplo.

In addition to Diplo, CL continued to keep the buzz going by posting photos with several prominent American producers and songwriters, including Skrillex and Jesse Jo Stark. Her debut will be overseen by talent manager Scooter Braun, known for working with Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

2NE1 also had a year of high achievements, including ranking number 11 on Billboard's year-end World Albums chart, the first time a K-pop act has had an entry on the chart since its inception in 1995. 2NE1's record-breaking 2014 album "Crush" has also been listed on Rolling Stone's 20 Best Pop Albums of 2014 and Fuse's 40 Best Albums of 2014.

After their 2011 hit single "I Am the Best" was re-released by American record label Capitol Records, rumors of 2NE1 possibly making an international debut after CL circulated the web, though they remain unconfirmed.
