Colorado Reporter Suffers Severe Frostbite After Removing Gloves For Live Shot, Sent To Hospital

A reporter in Colorado Springs suffered from severe frostbite on Saturday when he removed his gloves while setting up for a one-man live shot. He was sent to the hospital and is now recovering.

The temperature hovered around 11 degrees in Colorado Springs that day, with a wind chill of about three degrees, according to Sputnik News. The KRDO reporter, Erik Fink, tried to do the late-edition shot on his own and though he was dressed appropriately for the extreme weather conditions, he removed his gloves to repair a mechanical problem with his camera and exposed his hands to the cold and wind.

Another KRDO reporter tweeted a photo of Fink receiving treatment at the hospital, where he is expected to recover, according to Media Bistro:

A source told the publication that the station in Colorado is being criticized by reporters for a lack of safety training regarding extreme weather.

"No one was surprised that something bad was going to happen during spot news or weather, we'd just hoped it wouldn't lead to someone potentially losing fingers as a result," the source said.

Stay bundled up, folks - especially since parts of the US are as cold as Mars today!
