Pope Francis Reminds Others Of Impoverished Mothers Around The World, Encourages Public Breastfeeding [PHOTO]

Pope Francis has proclaimed that all mothers should be welcome to breastfeed in public - even within the Sistine Chapel.  According to People Magazine, Francis was baptizing 33 infants this past Sunday when he assured the attending mothers they would face no judgment for nursing during the service.

In his homily, he declared, "You mothers give your children milk and even now, if they cry because they are hungry, breastfeed them, don't worry." The Huffington Post reports that the written sermon used the Italian phrase for "give them milk," but during his remarks, the Pope changed it to "allattateli," which directly translates to "breastfeed them."

He also asked the congregation to think of the impoverished mothers around the world -"too many, unfortunately, who can't give food to their children."

La Stampa reports that Pope Francis is very adamant about preventing the wasting of food. In an interview, he stated, "If we were able to stop wasting and start recycling food, world hunger would diminish greatly. I was struck by one statistic, which says ten thousand children die of hunger each day across the world. There are so many children that cry because they are hungry."

He continued by recalling a mother feeding her child as he passed by. He said, "The child was crying its eyes out as I came past. The mother was caressing it. I said to her: madam, I think the child's hungry. 'Yes, it's probably time,' she replied. 'Please give it something to eat!' I said. She was shy and didn't want to breastfeed in public, while the Pope was passing. I wish to say the same to humanity: give people something to eat!"

TIME reports that the Pope's view on breast-feeding is a big win for those championing the right to breast-feed in public, which isn't always met with support.
