Liam Neeson Expresses Sorrow For Charlie Hebdo Victims, Says Level Of Gun Ownership In America Is A Disgrace [PHOTO]

Liam Neeson - best known for his roles in the "Taken" series - has recently expressed his opinion towards gun control in America following the Charlie Hebdo shootings in France. According to The Guardian, Neeson opposes gun ownership, and also denies that Hollywood is to blame for gun violence.

Neeson, who was born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, feels particularly close to those in France. He stated, "First off, my thoughts and prayers and my heart are with the deceased, and certainly with all of France, yesterday. I've got a lot of dear friends in Paris."

He then went on to ridicule the level of gun ownership in the United States, saying, "There's too many guns out there. Especially in America. I think the population is like, 320 million? There's over 300m guns. Privately owned, in America. I think it's a disgrace. Every week now we're picking up a newspaper and seeing, 'Yet another few kids have been killed in schools.'"

In a September interview with The Independent, he echoed a similar view, stating, "I am totally for gun control in the U.S. The population of America is roughly 300 million and there are 300 million guns in this country, which is terrifying."

Though Neeson often acts in violent action films, he denies that Hollywood has any part in furthering gun violence. According to the Huffington Post, he said, "I grew up watching cowboy movies, loved doing that [gun gesture] with my fingers, 'Bang, bang, you're dead!' I didn't end up a killer. I think that's something the power of cinema can be."

He continued, "A character like Bryan Mills going out with guns and taking revenge: its fantasy. It's in the movies, you know? I think it can give people a great release from stresses in life and all the rest of it, you know what I mean? It doesn't mean they're all going to go out and go, 'Yeah, let's get a gun!'"

What's your take on gun control in America?
