Pope Francis In Tacloban: Comforts Typhoon Yolanda Survivors Unfazed By Typhoon Amang; 'When I Saw The Catastrophe From Rome, I Felt That I Had To Be Here'

Pope Francis arrived in Tacloban despite the hoisted signal no. 2 storm in Leyte, which is ahead of its schedule on Saturday morning today.

Pope Francis' visit in Tacloban is his priority, which is to comfort the Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) survivors and victims, according to the report of Rappler.

In spite of Tropical Storm Amang (Mekkhala), Roman Catholic devotees showed an overwhelming spirit. Most of the pilgrims were chanting "Viva Il Papa! Papa Fancesco!" as the welcome the Pope in Tacloban City airport also known as ground zero, when Super Typhoon Yolanda struck the said place.

Furthermore, Rappler reported that as Pope Francis started to deliver his homily, he asked them to let him speak in his language which is Spanish.

"When I saw from Rome that catastrophe, I felt I had to be here. And on those very days I decided to come here," Pope Francis said.

Moreover, the Pope emphasized that Jesus too experienced many calamities. "He's there for you," he said comforting the people.

08:15 am - Departure from Manila for Tacloban
09:30 am - Arrival at the airport of Tacloban
10:00 am - Holy Mass near Tacloban International Airport
12:45 pm - Lunch with some of the survivors of typhoon Yolanda at the Archbishop's Residence in Palo, Leyte
3:00 pm  - Blessing of the Pope Francis Center for the Poor
3:30 pm  - Meeting with the priests, seminarians and families of the survivors at the Cathedral of Palo, Leyte
5:00 pm  - Departure from Tacloban to Manila
6:15 pm  - Arrival at Villamor Air Base in Manila

Meanwhile, GMA News reported that Pope Francis will go back to Manila around 1 in the afternoon Philippine time due to a bad weather and all activities will push through however will be shortened.

Pope Francis is in the Philippines for a 5-day pastoral and state visit that began from January 15 to 19.
