McDonald’s Recalls 1 Million Chicken McNuggets Contaminated With ‘Bits Of Plastic And Vinyl’

McDonald's might have some explaining to do as it recalls nearly a million of Chicken McNuggets for being contaminated with plastic and vinyl. The error reportedly took place in the Cargill McNugget factory in Thailand

Realizing that the incident might go viral should the nuggets end up on people's plates, the fastfood chain did not mind discarding the McNuggets which might have been contaminated.

McDonald's Japan, in an attempt to improve the quality of its products, opted to source the McNuggets from three Thai plants. This is because the fast food chain's previous supplier, Shanghai Husi Food Co., was allegedly mixing expired chicken with fresh produce. Even Starbucks and Burger King China reportedly received the supplies.

In a statement, company spokesperson Takashi Hasegasa apologized for the plastic contamination: "We deeply apologize for the trouble we have caused our customers and we are taking quick measures to analyze the cause of the contamination."

Meanwhile, the Cargill McNugget Factory claimed that the foreign materials found in the nuggets did not come from their production facilities. After a thorough investigation, the source of the plastic remains unknown. The plant promises to introduce additional inspection equipment to its facilities.

It isn't the first time McDonald's encountered controversy with regards to its food. Late last year, a customer in Osaka discovered a human tooth in her order of fries.
