Univision Stresses Importance Of Hispanic Vote After Republican Party Snubs It From 2016 Debates [PHOTO]

The Republican National Committee (RNC) recently came out with a statement revealing the time, place, and network of its nine official Republican presidential debates. Univision, the most-watched Spanish-language network, did not make the cut.

Since its announcement, the Republican Party has been accused of snubbing the network in order to avoid potentially awkward immigration questions. According to the Washington Times, Business Insider analyst Colin Campbell stated, "Does the Republican Party's official list of 2016 presidential primary debates reveal a desire to avoid uncomfortable immigration questions?"

He continued, "Some Democrats feel the National Republican Committee intentionally snubbed Univision on Friday when the country's largest Spanish-language channel was not included in the list of channels."

Univision spokesman Jose Zamora made a telling statement to the Huffington Post, saying, "There is a very simple political reality - Hispanics will decide the 2016 presidential election. No one can match Univision's reach and ability to inform, provide access and empower Hispanic America. Anyone who wants to reach and engage Hispanics will have to do it through Univision."

He continued, "The Hispanic community deserves to hear the policies and views of all political parties and Univision is committed to providing access to all points of view. We have an open invitation to all political parties to address our community on issues of importance and relevance. Candidates should not miss the opportunity to inform and engage with the fastest growing segment of the electorate."

The Hispanic community will not be entirely ignored, though. A debate broadcast from Florida scheduled for February 2016 will be hosted by NBC, and will be rebroadcasted on Telemundo, a division of NBC Universal Hispanic Enterprises and Content.

However, some are still quite unhappy - RNC chairman Reince Preibus told BuzzFeed earlier this week, "it's highly questionable whether we're treated fairly on Univision."
