Anime Fans Pleasantly Surprised At Aniplex Prices For ‘Puella Magi Madoka Magica Rebellion’ Blu-ray And DVD

Ask anime fans which series' they own on Blu-ray or DVD and you might find a strange trend. The only Aniplex licensed titles they've managed to afford are for series' that they favor above all else.

Otherwise, $400.00 for a special edition Blu-ray set is not worth it.

Nevertheless, this weekend at the Otakon Vegas festival, Aniplex announced the official North American release of popular anime movie "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion." While some fans may have already imported the title from its Japanese release, this official American release has lowered the cost of the buy considerably.

Or so, some fans on Crunchyroll seem to think so:

"I always fall out of my chair everytime they release something affordable," commented Tsubasa_Lover_4Ever.

"*squints* Only $29.98 for an Aniplex DVD? ... What are they hiding?" asked Rcsatcrunchyroll in hilarious disbelief.

"The anime series' they put out are always expensive, but movies are pretty good in terms of their usual prices," explained TearfulFriend18.

According to Crunchyroll, the three versions of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion" set to be released are a Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD/Soundtrack CD combo, a Standard Edition Blu-ray, and a Standard Edition DVD. Pre-orders are currently available for all editions leading up to the official release date slated for April 7.

Anime News Network reports that "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion" was released in Japan in Oct. 2013, with releases following in Taiwan, Los Angeles, and Australia. The movie was directed by Yukihiro Miyamoto with the screenplay by the original anime screenwriter, Gen Urobuchi. The main voice cast included Aoi Yuki, Chiwa Saito, Ai Nonaka, Emiri Kato, Eri Kitamura, Kana Asumi, and Kaori Mizuhashi.

ANN describes the plot of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion" as follows:

"A girl becomes a magical girl in exchange for her wish. The magical girls have a fate to fight against the witches, the harbingers of destruction that plant the seeds of despair, and in the end, they will succumb to despair and transform into witches themselves...

The terrible cycle that had repeated so many times was finally ended by Madoka Kaname's sacrifice, and the world was led into a new order. However, the magical girls' battle must continue. The reason for this is because it is the compensation for the miracle. Unable to let her memories of Madoka die, Homura Akemi, the magical girl left behind continues to fight alone in the revived world. Her feelings pave the way for a new story.

...Madoka Kaname, the girl who had become the pillar to the order of the circle and Sayaka Miki, the girl who had lost her life when her magical power ran out both appear in front of Homura. What is the meaning of the appearance of two girls who should not exist anymore at all? Will Nagisa Momoe, the new magical girl who has an unsure face, tell the truth of the matter? And what is the new being that fights against the order of god and tramples the world?"
