Video games based on popular moves don't always do well. But some Japanese game developers seem to have discovered the secret to creating a successful game franchise from a previously existing work:

Make the video game based on an internationally popular anime series (i.e. "Dragon Ball Z")

"Psycho-Pass" is the latest anime to get its own game adaptation and it looks like development is moving along smoothly. According to Crunchyroll, Mages/5pb. Producers Makoto Asada recently tweeted that voice recording has begun. Perhaps this is a hint that an official release date for "Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness" will be announced soon.

"A little color starts to be applied to the story. It's exciting," tweeted Asada (via Crunchyroll).

The official website for the "Psycho-Pass" game includes a full character list including fan favorites Shinya Kogami, Akane Tsunemori, Nobuchika Ginoza, Tomoni Masaoka, Shusei Kagari, Yayoi Kunizuka, and Shion Karanomori.

The game will also add three original characters. The first is named Nadeshiko Kugatachi, a new Inspector, Takuma Tsurugi, a new enforcer, and a mysterious new person named Alpha with "unknown" listed for all of their information.

"Psycho-Pass" is an anime series written by infamous screenwriter Gen Urobuchi, and directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro and Naoyoshi Shiotani. The main voice cast for the series includes Kana Hanazawa, Tomukazu Seki, Akira Ishida, Kenji Nojima, Kinryuu Arimoto,and Miyuki Sawashiro

My Anime List provides the following description for "Psycho-Pass":

"The series takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person's state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term 'Psycho-Pass' refers to a standard used to measure an individual's being. The story centers around the 'enforcement officer' Shinya Kogami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.

In the future, it is possible to quantitatively measure a person's emotions, desires, and every inclination. In this way, it is also possible to measure a person's criminal tendency factor, which is used to judge criminals.

This is the story of a team of policemen dedicated to maintaining public order. Some of them work in the Enforcement Division, responsible for the apprehension of criminals, while others belong to the Supervisory Division which oversees their colleagues in Enforcement."
