Julie Walters Saddened By Lack Of Working Class Voice In The Media, 'Mamma Mia' Actress Dreams Of Better Access To Drama [PHOTO]

Julie Walters has recently given her input on the presence of the working class in the arts - namely by saying there isn't enough of it. According to the Daily Mail, the 64-year-old 'Mamma Mia,'  'Harry Potter,' and 'Calendar Girls' star appears to support the argument of Labour MP Chris Bryant.

Bryant originally claimed that British culture was 'dominated' by stars like James Blunt and Eddie Redmayne who came from privileged backgrounds and went to expensive boarding schools.  Blunt fired back angrily, calling Bryant a "classist gimp" who was using "the politics of jealousy" to win votes.

However, Walters sees the plight of the working class, as she came from a similar background herself. According to The Guardian, she stated, "Working-class kids aren't represented. Working-class life is not referred to. It's really sad. I think it means we're going to get loads more middle-class drama. It will be middle-class people playing working-class people, like it used to be."

She continued, "People like me wouldn't have been able to go to college today. I could because I got a full grant. I don't know how you get into it now. Kids write to me all the time and I think: I don't know what to tell you."

Walters has said that she will vote for the Labour Party in the general election, but with reservations. One of her dreams is to "create proper grants for all working-class kids so they could go to drama school."

It also seems she dislikes the divide between fame and everyday life. According to The Guardian, she stated, "Anonymity is so important. You just don't realize till it's gone how precious it is. [People] see you for something that you're not - 'an actress', 'famous' - and that brings with it some kind of weird aura that is not real. People don't respond to you as a real person, and I hate that."
