Amal Clooney Combats Her Celebrity Image When Asked About Courtroom Attire, Armenian Genocide Hearing Takes Center Stage [PHOTO]

This past Wednesday, Amal Clooney appeared before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in order to represent Armenia in a case against Dogu Perincek. According to TIME, Perincek is the chairman of the Turkish Workers' Party, and is known for calling the Armenian genocide an "international lie."

Since her marriage to actor George Clooney, Amal Clooney has been in the limelight due to her tremendous personal style. However, while in court she made it clear that she doesn't want to be known simply as a rising fashionista.

Who What Wear reports that when a reporter asked her what she was wearing in the courtroom, Clooney replied, "Ede and Ravenscroft." For those who don't know the name, Ede and Ravenscroft is a heritage company known for producing high-quality legal garments of all sorts.

Clearly, Clooney's response indicates that she would rather be known for her career as a human rights lawyer than a celebrity dressing in designer fashions. We don't blame her - the case against Perincek could have wide implications for much of Europe.

TIME reports that the Armenian genocide is widely considered to be one of the first genocides of the 20th century. An estimated 1.5 million Armenians were killed by Ottoman Turks, but Turkey has refused to call the event genocide and has also contested the numbers of people killed. Depending on the outcome of the case, laws throughout Europe that prohibit the public denial of past genocides could be altered.

According to People Magazine, this case is Clooney's first big case of 2015. Last year, she represented Greece in the country's bid to have the Elgin Marbles returned from the British Museum.
