Pope Francis Prays For Human Trafficking Victims; Pope Urges World Leaders To 'Remove The Causes Of This Shameful Wound'

Pope Francis on Sunday talks about the first International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking by urging world leaders to take action on the said issue.

According to the report of Vatican Radio, the February 8 the Day of Prayer is also the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese sister who as her young age becomes a victim of trafficking.

"Each one of us feels committed to being the voice of these, our brothers and sisters, humiliated in their dignity," Pope Francis said after the recitation of the Angelus at Saint Peter's Square according to Catholic News Agency.

He also offered his encouragement to those working to end the human trafficking of "men, women, and children who are enslaved, exploited, abused as instruments of work or pleasure, and often tortured and humiliated."

The Holy Father called the government to take action in "removing the cause of this shameful wound... a wound unworthy in a civil society."

Furthermore, it is not the first time Pope Francis talks about human trafficking and calling world leaders to act on it. Breitbart wrote that last April, the Pope defined trafficking as "a crime against humanity," and even define it as "an open wound on the body of contemporary society."

Meanwhile, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on the Global Reports on Trafficking in Persons 2014, "the vast majority of the victims detected globally are females; either adult women or underage girls."

Reports also said that victims of human trafficking are subjected in different exploitation. "The two most frequently detected types are sexual exploitation and forced labor."
