‘Days Of Our Lives’ Cancellation Rumors: New Writers Enlisted To Bring Back Show To Its Former Glory?

Rumors are swirling that the cancelation of "Day of Our Lives" might take place because of its plummeting ratings. Recently, major changes in the show's writing staff have been implemented as well.

According to the Soap Opera Network, the show's veteran writers, Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell, are about to be replaced by new writers namely Josh Griffith and Dena Higley.

Higley and Griffith are no strangers to soap opera for they have likewise worked for "The Young and the Restless" and "One Life to Live."

Higley and Griffith have been officially enlisted last Feb. 16 as per Soap Opera Digest. However, their output will only be seen in the middle or end of July. Higley is also a returning writer of "Days of Our Lives." She worked for the soap in 2003 and came back for a second stint several years after.

The new writers will be facing a big responsibility since the show will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this coming November.

However, despite the change, NBC, Sony Pictures Television, and Corday Productions are still allegedly having doubts about renewing "Days of Our Lives." The network will reportedly decide before September 2016.

Fans are yet to react about the possible "Days of Our Lives" cancellation. However, some have previously voiced out their disappointment about the show's questionable storylines.

"I am 74 so I have been watching DOOL for years. My disappointment in the writers the past year has been great. I love the older actors. The writers are making the young actors a near Porn show. IT USED TO HAVE A LOT OF MYSTERY. WHAT HAPPENED? Deidre you look GREAT!" said Betty Hric Woodson.

Becky Justice, meanwhile, believes that the show shouldn't focus too much on intimate scenes.

"I loved the show when it had all the mystery, kidnapping & things like that. I hate all the sex stuff no matter who's doing it. I change the channel when it gets to that."

Dianna Thomas Dietrich echoes the same sentiment sayng, "Some of the story lines of late have been disgusting and I am tired of every other scene being sex. Like you, I am 74 and have watched Days for many, many years but am just about ready to give it up."

"It may be a soap, but it doesn't have to be nasty and distasteful. Leave something to the imagination, for heaven's sake," she added.
