Michael Phelps and his girlfriend quietly got engaged amid rumors that he hooked up with Taylor Chandler, who was reportedly born a man. Meanwhile, the Olympic record holder is preparing a comeback in April.

Michael Phelps posted a photo on his Instagram showing him and fiancée, Nicole Johnson, embracing on the snow. He captioned the image: "She said yes@nicole.m.johnson. (Photo credit to @arschmitty)."

Nicole Johnson also posted a similar photo along with the caption: "I'm gonna be a Mrs.  @m_phelps00: @arschmitty."

The engagement between Michael Phelps and girlfriend Nicole Johnson came on the heels of the allegations by Taylor Lianne Chandler, who is an intersex, that she hooked up with the Olympian.

In a Facebook message per MailOnline, Taylor Chandler wrote a few months back: "I am probably going to lose him because he is a brand that his team wants to protect and things since he went to rehab came to my attention that didn't put him or our relationship in the best light." 

"I was never a man, never lived as a man. No one can say they knew me as a man or produce a photo of me as a man," she posted. "There are people that remember me as an androgynous child at times because of what was forced upon me."

Meanwhile, after the announced engagement to his girlfriend, there's good news for fans as Michael Phelps is reportedly targeting an April return to competitive swimming after serving a six-month suspension over his drunk driving arrest.

According to Baltimore Sun, Michael Phelps is set to return at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Arizona.

"The record-setting Olympian's longtime coach, Bob Bowman, confirmed the plan Friday after reports emerged from Germany, where Phelps was making an appearance," it said.

The report of Michael Phelps appearance at the Mesa helped bump up ticket sales, said Paul Smith, the CEO of Mesa Aquatics Club.

"He's still a draw," Smith said. "It created a teachable moment for a lot of coaches, but I don't feel any residual fallout of the respect and admiration for what Michael has done," Smith said. "We consider it behind him."
