Keith Olbermann Twitter Fight Gets Him Suspended From ESPN; Keith Olbermann ESPN Showtime On Hold

Keith Olbermann Twitter debate got him suspended by ESPN.

Variety reported that ESPN suspends Keith Olbermann for remarks he about a Pennsylvania State University fundraiser on Twitter.

ESPN said Olbermann would be suspended for the rest of the week.

"We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State. It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN," ESPN said in a statement, released by Variety. "We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday."

Olbermann got into a debate on Twitter after he was alerted about a Pennsylvania State University's annual fundraiser to fight pediatric cancer. As responses came in, Olbermann started engaging with them.

This isn't the first time Olbermann has blasted the school. He once tweeted that students who went to Penn State were "pitiful."

Olbermann was suspended by MSNBC in 2010 for making donations to political candidates without approval. This violated company policy at the time.

Last year the Walt Disney-owned ESPN suspended Bill Simmons, editor in chief of Grantland after he called NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell a "liar" on a podcast.

ESPN suspended baseball writer Keith Law from using Twitter in November. Law debated evolution on on Twitter.

ESPN suspended Stephen A. Smith for a week last July after making comments after the Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice controversy.

When Olbermann first joined ESPB he was askd if he missed his political shows Olbermann answered No, I won't miss politics. My understanding of my own emotions relative to politics was really clarified in the past year. I was invited on 'This Week With George Stephanopoulos.' I did it twice, and they invited me on many more times. We talked about doing it on a regular basis, but I found myself coming up with really bad excuses to not do it, like my dog needs my attention. I finally figured out I just didn't like the subject matter anymore. If you cover politics for eight years without interruption like I did, you need a change. After all, we retire our presidents after eight years. Why you should make anybody cover our political system beyond that is a mystery to me. It was pretty much burned out of me. People who see me now say I look about five years younger than I did at Current."
