Nikon Unveils Lightweight D7200 DSLR; Specs Of 24.2 Mega Pixel Shooter Inside

In a number of weeks, Japanese camera manufacturing giant Nikon has managed to announce two DSLR models - the D550, the brand's latest entry level model; and the D810A, a full-frame sensored shooter that specializes in shooting stars at night.

Joining that lineup is their latest lightweight model, the D7200.

The D550, an afforadble DX format, 24.2-megapixel shooter sans a low-pass filter is the successor the to D5300, featuring improvements such as built-in Wi-Fi and 1080p recording at 60 frames per second. Additionally, an adjustable 3.2-inch touchscreen display and improved battery life managing 3200 exposures without the use of its built-in flash. The model was released last month and is available in two colors: black or red. It retails for about $900.

The D810A, however, is a full-frame, 36.1-megapixel DSLR that is aimed specifically for astrophotography. Nikon even went as far to announce that the model is "not recommended for general photography," partly because of the presence of an infrared filter that may alter colors on taking regular photos. Engadget claims that the new model will hit stores in late May, with the price tag soon to follow.

It seems Nikon doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon as they have announced another addition to their 2015 lineup: the D7200.

Their latest lightweight shooter is the successor tho their popular D7100, a 24.1-megapixel DSLR that was introduced back in 2013. This new model now carries a 24.2-megapixel DX CMOS sensor without an optical low-pass filter, a 51 point autofocus system, and an EXPEED 4 image processor.

When taking videos, the D7200 is able to handle 1080p for up to 60 frames per second in 1.3 crop mode. In DX mode, it manages 24, 25, and 30 frames per second.

Other features include dual SD card slots and built-in Wi-Fi for wireless image transfer.

Engadget reports that the Nikon D7200 will be hitting stores in April, with a price tag of $1,200 (body only) - the model is also anticipated to arrive with a DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G kit lens for $1,700.
