Mercedes Principal Toto Wolff To Christian Horner: Red Bull Should 'Get Their Heads Down And Work Hard'

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff says Christian Horner and Red Bull Racing need to "work hard and sort it out" following an issue about engine equalisation.

Red Bull Racing suffered over the weekend at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, with one car getting lapped and the other not finishing the race.

The team's principal Christian Horner has called the FIA for an equalisation mechanism as part of their rules.

"They perhaps need to look at it," he said in an article published by BBC Sport.

Horner claims that the Renault engine in their car in Australia had less performance than the one they used in the final race last season.

Mercedes principal Toto Wolff whose team won first & second in the race responded to the claims.

"If you come into F1 and you try to beat each other or perform at the highest level and equalisation is what you need after the first race and you cry out after the first race, it is not how we have done things in the past and not how we have moaned," he said.

Wolff is accusing Horner of "moaning" after the Red Bull principal called for the FIA to equalise the engines. He went on to say that Red Bull and their engine suplier Renault should "get their heads down and work hard and sort it out."

Horner described his race weekend as "frustrating," adding that their Renault engine was "probably 100 hp down on Mercedes."

He also implied that their engine supplier doesn't know how to solve the issue.

"With any problem, first of all you have to understand what the problem is in order to be able to address it," Horner said. "Until they get to the bottom of what the issues are it is going be very difficult to address that."
