NASCAR News 2015: Executive Vice President Steve O'Donnell Releases Statement; 'We Don't Have Favorites,' Says Director

The latest NASCAR News 2015 has been making headlines as of late.

This is after controversies were met during the end of the Auto Club 400 from Fontana.

According to reports, Brad Keselowski, who won the recent race had a controversial win, as fans say that it was opponent Kurt Busch who should have won.

A caution was anticipated during the final lap of the race when another racer, Greg Biffle, wrecked to the end of the line. This incident was supposedly a cause for a caution, which would end the race while Kurt was leading.

The anticipated caution never came, which caused Keselowski, who was behind Busch, to pass him and win the race.

Fans say that NASCAR officials did not put out a caution because they allegedly did not want Busch to win.

During an interview with Steve O'Donnell on the SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, NASCAR's Executive Vice President defended their decision, and said that safety is of their utmost concern.

"I want to be clear," said O'Donnell, as transcribed by SB Nation. "If we can race back and we don't believe we're putting the competitor in harm's way, we're going to do that. But we'll always err on the side of safety."

"We have to look at the incident and the safety of the drivers first and foremost. When we looked at (the Daytona 500) incident and Kyle Larson hitting the wall at a high rate of speed, we felt we needed to dispatch the safety equipment immediately. That was despite where we were in the race. We needed to do that."

"If that were the case in Daytona where Kyle may have just glanced the wall and drove off, we would have raced back," O'Donnell continued. "What you saw (Sunday) was one of those instances where a driver was able to get set and race off in time where we knew we had some time to make the decision. The decision was made to let them come back to the checkered flag."

In addition to O'Donnell's statement, Richard Buck, who is the Director for the Sprint Cup Series, also added his own statement, saying that they are not favoring any driver more than the other.

"We don't have any favorites," he said. "We try to keep every emotion out of it. ... We work very closely in a very dynamic way to identify the situation and look for the solution to it, then that solution is backed up by multiple layers. So we feel very, very confident about our actions."

This recent NASCAR news 2015 is still developing and will be reported on as soon as new information becomes avaiable.
