Manila's K-pop Scene Bids 2012 Adieu With Successful KPOPCON4
What makes an awesome K-pop convention? You bring everything that embodies Korean entertainment, of course! The KPOPCON4 in Manila was no exception as the day-long activity at the PICC Forums on December 29 brought in fans (6000 of them!), fanclubs (count 60 in attendance), cosplayers, cover performances, games, a fashion show, a K-pop performance and even an awards ceremony!
Manila has always been regarded as one of of the key markets of K-pop in Southeast Asia, and this is even moreso confirmed by the success of the much buzzed about KPOPCON4. Already a tradition in the locale, this is the fourth time KPOPCON was staged, and each time they prove that there is more to Kpop than spazzing hearts. This year's KPOPCON, as with all others, is geared for generosity, as proceeds from the event is going to charity. This adds not just an opportunity for attendees to be in familiar territories but also a chance to make a difference.
The day began with doors opening at 9AM. Early attendees were able to witness cover performances by equally talented K-pop enthusiasts. The convention floor also teemed with cosplayers dressed up as their favorite Kpop idol groups.
To add spice to the day, A.Cian performed in a showcase of their mini album release's tracks. "Stuck" was their intro performance, after which they played a game with fans before moving on to their final performance. They concluded their showcase with a fansign session.
Basic House, a known South Korean casual fashion label, also rolled out the catwalk with a fashion show. This was held in between dance battles for the latest grooves in Kpop.
The day's main highlight was the showcase from F.Cuz, who electrified the venue with their opening performance of "Number 1" and "No One". The fans also got to know more about F.Cuz via a short Q&A session. After answering fans' questions, F.Cuz clearly was set to impress the crowd as they performed, "Jiggy" and "Dreaming I". In between these two final performances, they showed their charms by dancing to "Gangnam Style" with their own flair. As expected, F.Cuz signed albums for fans as their final treat of the day.
The event concluded with the awarding of Kpop Acts that were loved in the Philippine K-pop scene. Below is the list of winners:
