2016 Kia Optima Arriving With Android Auto And Apple's CarPlay

Kia has announced they will be integrating Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay into the 2016 Optima.

The Korean manufacturer unveiled the third-generation of the Optima at the New York International Auto Show.

"The all-new Optima retains the signature personality of its predecessor, but we've literally improved everything, providing more space, better ride and handling, more technology and greater refinement," Kia's Michael Sprague said.

The all new model features a turbocharged 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine, capable of producing 178 horsepower and is matched with a new seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.

Several changes have been made to the engine latest model's engine. The base 2.4 liter four-cylinder will produce 185 horsepower, making it seven less from the previous model. As is with the turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine, which has been retuned from 274 to 247.

Kia claims that changes to both "engine have been returned for fuel economy and better performance and divability with maximum torque now available at a lower RPM."

Interior options include heated and cooled front seats and a height adjustable passenger seat. All are wrapped in premium Nappa leather.

The 2016 Optima will be the first Kia vehicle to offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Features include smartphone functions such as receiving messages, music and navigation, displayed through an 8.0-inch touch screen monitor running on Kia's UVO2 infotainment system. Other manufacturers such as Chevy, GM and Ford have also intergrated the system in some of their models.

Minor changes have been made to the car's exterior. A chrome fitting that appears from the front of the A-pillar runs across until the bottom rear of the window, giving the car a more streamlined look. Larger air vents also appear at both the front and rear bumpers. The car is available in two colors - dark aubergine and merlot.

The 2016 Kia Optima is expected in showrooms in the following months.
