Edward Snowden Interview: 'Last Week Tonight's' Host John Oliver Scores Interview With Whistleblower; Watch It Here!

Comedian and talk show host John Oliver was able to sit down and interview whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The comedian announced the interview on his show on Sunday, saying that he traveled to Russia last week and was able to convince the whisteblower to talk on air.

Snowden had sought political asylum in Russia after he leaked documents revealing that the American government secretly invaded journalists' privacy through different surveillance programs.

In the interview, Oliver talks to Snowden about several very pertinent topics about privacy and surveillance. But true to his roots as a comedic reporter, Oliver also interjected humorous questions. One of them, according to CNN was "Can the government secretly access Americans' naked selfies?"

"If you have your email somewhere like Gmail, hosted on a server overseas or transferred overseas or [if it] at anytime crosses outside the borders of the United States, your junk ends up in the database," Snowden replied.

"Even if you send it to somebody within the United States, your wholly domestic communication between you and your wife can go from New York to London and back and get caught up in the database."

Oliver also asked Snowden about a New York Times article that revealed information that could have possibly spelled trouble for an American operation in Iraq. Snowden admitted that this could pose a problem.

"You have to own that, then," Oliver said. "You're giving documents with information you know could be harmful, which could get out there."

Snowden has not granted many interviews especially to American journalists, and so plenty of people were surprised that he granted one to Oliver. According to CNN's Snowden source, "The reason why we chose John Oliver is because of his journalism."

Before hosting his own show, "Last Week Tonight," which airs on HBO, Oliver was a regular correspondent in the Comedy Central show, "The Daily Show," hosted by Jon Stewart.
