At first glance, it appears that JYJ's Kim Jaejoong has it all: a successful music career, millions of adoring fans, and a hot, new single ("One Kiss"). However, if you take a deeper look into his background, you will find that his life has been full of emotional hardships that is perhaps not befitting of a K-Pop star. It also becomes apparent that Kim overcame many personal adversities, which has become a touching, inspirational story to his fans.

Kim was born as Han Jae-jun on February 4, 1986. When he was still young, he was given up for adoption by his birth mother. He took on his adoptive family's surname and was renamed Kim Jae-joong.

Earlier today, Kim's biological birth mother revealed on TV Chosun's Hardbitten Life that the vicious rumors surrounding the star's adoption nearly pushed her to commit suicide.

"I did not abandon my son," said Oh Seo-jin. "I was too young by the time I got divorced. I was suffering financially. An acquaintance of mine suggested that I send away my son to someone else's house, and I did not realize then that it would be an adoption."

Oh added that she first met her son 20 years after she gave up him. "By then, he had became [sic] a Hallyu star, but my happiness did not stay long," she said.

After people discovered that she was Kim's biological mother, Oh said that she had to endure the wrath of the public. Fans posted malicious messages online and criticized her actions, which stemmed from the misunderstandings.

However, Oh said she is happier now and pulled herself out of depression by becoming CEO of Korea Family Protector, a nonprofit welfare organization.
