Melissa Rivers news reported that the "Fashion Police" producer shared how her son was "ridiculously close" with Joan Rivers.

Melissa Rivers told entertainment news magazine People about how she is very casual with her 14-year-old son, Cooper Endicott.

"Cooper and I talk to each other in a casual way that my mom would have never spoken to me in," said Melissa Rivers. "It's just the two of us."

The 47-year-old executive producer of "Fashion Police" said her son was very close with his iconic grandmother.

"There wasn't that generational gap," Melissa Rivers said and she added, "It's that great joke, 'Why do grandparents and grandkids get along so well? Common enemy.'"

Melissa Rivers revealed how news about Joan Rivers' death deeply affected her son.

"(Joan Rivers' death) was very hard on Cooper. He was so sad," Melissa Rivers said.

"I just told him, 'It's going to be good. We have each other. It's going to be okay.'"

Melissa Rivers recalled how news surrounding Joan Rivers' death made her son "very protective." The former "Fashion Police" host passed away last Sept. 4 after a botched throat procedure at an Upper East Side medical facility named Yorkville Endoscopy.

"In the beginning, when I would cry, he would get really frustrated and upset and say, 'What do you want me to do?' Because he couldn't fix it," she narrated.

"I just told him it's okay to cry. And we had lots of nights where we just cuddled. And he would come home sometimes and just say, 'I'm not having a good day.' And I'd say, 'It's okay. You're allowed.'"

The only daughter of Joan Rivers revealed how she tried to hide her emotional breakdowns from her son.

"I go in my closet and I shut the door and I sit on the floor. And then I just cry," she said.

"It's a release. And Cooper doesn't need to see the days I fall apart."

"It's okay for him to see me sad. But he doesn't need to see me in a puddle," she added.
