After a brief scare, Stana Katic has already committed to come back for "Castle" season 8 following the series' renewal but one website claimed that the series might be extended past the eight year.

Cartermatt said that it heard about rumors that "Castle" season 8 won't be the "final season of the show."

"As for how long they will be filming this season, much of that depends on the episode count," it said. "There have been rumors regarding them only doing 13 episodes this season, and if that is the case filming would likely be over sooner for Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, and the rest of the cast."

ABC president Paul Lee told Entertainment Weekly that if it's up to them, "Castle" season 8, following its renewal, won't be the last as he wants to see the show air "for many years to come."

The executive's announcement is a good reassurance considering the changes in the series with showrunners Andrew Marlowe and Terrie Miller not returning for "Castle" season 8.

On May 12, co-creator Andrew Marlowe and Terrie Miller posted a note on his Twitter which he also captioned, "To the #Castle fandom: Thank you for seven amazing seasons. It's been an honor. We loved every second of it."

The note read, "There is a universal truth we have to face, whether we want to or not ... everything eventually ends. As much as I've looked forward to this day, I've always disliked endings. The last day of summer, the final chapter of a great book, parting ways with a close friend. But endings are inevitable. Leaves fall. You close the book. You say goodbye. Today is one of those days for us. Today we say goodbye to everything that was familiar.Everything that was comfortable."

Following "Castle" season 8 renewal, they added, "We're moving on. But just because we're leaving, and that hurts, there are some people who are so much a part of us, that they'll be with us no matter where we are. They are our solid ground, our north stars, and the small clear voices that will be with us."

 "Castle" season 8 is scheduled to be aired in the fall.
