While many fans of the hit ABC series remain wondering whether the heart Amanda Clarke received from a transplant was indeed from Victoria Grayson, "Revenge" star Madeleine Stowe revealed that there was an alternate ending for the finale.

In the said alternate ending, Victoria Grayson didn't die and wasn't really the evil person. "Revenge" star Madeleine Stowe believes that her character is only misunderstood. 

"There were definitely conversations about David Clarke having been a mastermind. We all discussed this, and I think they batted around with it in the writers' room. And at the beginning of this season, they toyed with the idea of what if this guy who they thought was this great guy wasn't at all," she told She Knows.

"So, this young girl's journey, Amanda's journey, would have all been based on myth. And I thought that was really fascinating and very potentially tragic for her character."

Madeleine Stowe added, "And, you know, the idea of Victoria, who everyone perceived as evil because they saw through Amanda's eyes, was not necessarily bad at all."

However, the creative team of the series opted to have a different direction for the finale.

In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Sunil Nayar believes that killing off Victoria Grayson and letting Amanda Clarke live were apt to end the series.

"Emily's inspiration for executing revenge was inspired by honoring her father. To tell this story, she deserved success when she came out of it, and to have her die as a resolution, felt wrong," Nayar said.

"If she died, then everyone who helped her out on this journey, specifically Jack and Nolan would be in a place of utter sadness. And that's not the right way for the show to go out."

While the show appears to have ended with a "happily ever after" with Amanda Clarke ending up with Jack Porter, the creative team still left her with a haunting mystery.

The heart she received from the transplant is believed to be from her mortal enemy Victoria Grayson and the ironic truth will haunt her forever.
