Prison Guard Nancy Gonzalez Pregnant With Inmate's Child, Faces Charges

Most people don't view solitary confinement as the best place to meet the future mother of your children, but that is allegedly what happened when 29-year-old prison guard Nancy Gonzalez met convicted cop killer Ronnell Wilson at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Gonzalez, who admitted having sex with Wilson several times at the federal prison with the goal of conceiving a child, was originally assigned as the nighttime prison guard at the victim's cellblock.

According to The New York Times, other inmates saw the couple disappearing behind closed doors. On more than one occasion, the inmates witnessed them kissing, with one witness saying he saw Gonzalez in Wilson's cell while the felon's pants were pulled down. Security footage appears to support these allegations.

"I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child," Gonzalez said in a recorded phone call to another inmate she had become romantically involved with at the jail.

Now eight months pregnant with Wilson's child, Gonzalez was arraigned in on charges of sexual assault in federal court on Tuesday-an inmate cannot legally consent to sex. If convicted, her prison sentence could last as long as 15 years.

Wilson made headlines when his 2003 execution-style murder of undercover detectives James Nemorin and Rodney Andrews led to him becoming the first felon to receive a death sentence in New York City in over 50 years.

During his trial, Wilson, who has no other children, expressed his desire for children in a letter to another inmate.

""I just need a baby before these pigs try to take my life," he wrote. "I need to leave something behind."

Although a court of appeals overturned Wilson's death sentence, he is awaiting a judge's decision on whether prosecutors can continue to seek the death penalty.

According to Gonzalez's lawyer Anthony Ricco, the prison guard's actions were the result of a troubled past.

"She's had a very tragic life and as this case proceeds, you'll learn more about it and how these affected her judgment," he said, adding, "People find love in the strangest places."
