Why Manny Pacquiao May Never Fight Again: ‘It's A Very Serious Injury,’ Says Expert

Manny Pacquiao's injury is "very serious," according to Top Rank Boxing promoter Bob Arum, and could lead to a possible retirement.

However, Arum remains positive and mentioned the boxer may still be able to recover: "Do we know for sure whether he'll be able to fight again? No. But rotator cuff surgery has generally been successful with athletes. I mean Kobe Bryant underwent the same operation with the same doctor."

Manny Pacquiao has made an announcement surrounding his rumored retirement and healing process following his recent match against Floyd Mayweather.

The Filipino athlete plans on waiting until his right shoulder recovers and will then make a decision on whether to announce his retirement.

"I will focus on healing my shoulder. After that, I will announce continuing my career or retirement," he said, according to Bleacher Report.

"I'm not saying I am going to retire, but it's near. I'm already 36, turning 37 this December."

Pacquiao's May 2 match against Mayweather exacerbated his already-injured right shoulder, which has been a point of controversy for many boxing fans. Many are critical of his decision to move forward with the match and failing to notify the Nevada Athletic Commission about his injury.

The 36-year-old athlete remains under investigation for his participation in the match.
