Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair Shoot Shot Down By 'Orange Is The New Black' Star Laverne Cox? What Did She Say?

Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair shoot recently went public and has since gone viral. numerous celebrities chimed in on their thoughts about the former olympiad's transition, including "Orange is the New Black" star, Laverne Cox. Cox, a star on the hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black, appeared on the cover of Time magazine last year with the headline "The Transgender Tipping Point."

Caitlyn Jenner chose to reveal her new identity by gracing the cover of Vanity Fair, shot by non-other than renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz. She announced her new look by making a Twitter account (@Caitlyn_Jenner) and posting a photo of the Vanity Fair cover with no caption. Shortly after, Jenner tweeted "I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me." With this revelation, the Internet went crazy with expectedly mixed reactions.

Laverne Cox took to social blogging site Tumblr to share her thoughts on Jenner:

"Yes, Caitlyn looks amazing and is beautiful but what I think is most beautiful about her is her heart and soul, the ways she has allowed the world into her vulnerabilities,' she wrote. "The love and devotion she has for her family and that they have for her. Her courage to move past denial into her truth so publicly. These things are beyond beautiful to me."

Cox had written a long heartfelt note about Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair shoot, because she, too, had undergone scrutiny about her own magazine cover. Many had praised her but not exactly for the reasons she hoped they would.

"A year ago when my Time magazine cover came out I saw posts from many trans folks saying that I am 'drop dead gorgeous' and that that doesn't represent most trans people," Cox added. "It was news to be [sic] that I am drop dead gorgeous but I'll certainly take it. But what I think they meant is that in certain lighting, at certain angles I am able to embody certain cisnormative beauty standards."

The term "cisgender" refers to the gender one associates with at birth.

"No one or two or three trans people can," she says about representing the whole transgender community. "This is why we need diverse media representations of trans folks to multiply trans narratives in the media and depict our beautiful diversities.

Cox shared that she is very hopeful that all the attention Jenner is getting will benefit the whole transgender community.

"I hope, as I know Caitlyn does, that the love she is receiving can translate into changing hearts and minds about who all trans people are as well as shifting public policies to fully support the lives and well being of all of us," Cox writes. "The struggle continues..."

Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair shoot has caused a spike in magazine sales since it was released.
