K-Pop Review: I by Jaejoong
JYJ's Jaejoong made his solo debut with his 1st mini album, I.
"One Kiss" was Jaejoong's pre-released track for the album. The beginning reminds me of "Always With Me, Always with You" by Joe Satriani. I really loved this song, it was a beautiful rock-ballad type song, and Jaejoong's voice was amazing. Could easily have been his title song, in fact I would have loved to see a MV for it.
Score: 1/1
"Mine" was not my favorite song. It wasn't a bad song, just not my pick for a title song. I felt like it was chosen as the title song because the title fit in with the theme of his concert and the album. I am liking the same dark and kind of dramatic MV, it reminded me of his groupmate, Junsu's solo debut MV, "Tarantallegra," just less theatrical.
Score: .75/1
You Fill Me Up: 1/1
Healing For Myself: .5/1
All Alone: .75/1
Fans have only known Jaejoong as an idol star, and its refreshing to see him do a genre so different from what we are used to. A lot of times if an idol singer or idol group releases an album of a certain genre they are still extremely pop-esque, so its nice to see him go all the way with this rock genre, and not be kitschy or chicken out half way through.
Final Score: 4/5
