Dallas Shooting Updates Media Released; Suspect Confirmed To Be Mentally Ill

The Dallas shooting media updates have been released and new reports claim that the shooter is mentally ill.

According to NBC, suspect James Boulware has been confirmed by his family to be mentally unstable.

As reported previously, a man attacked and ambushed the Dallas police headquarters Saturday morning by planting explosives outside the premise and shooting heavily at the headquarters. His attack was later proven to be unsuccessful as there was reported to be zero casualties.

James, who was not identified initially, was shot and killed by a sniper hours after his attack, following an intense car chase between himself and the police.

The encounter was considered to be a dramatic one, as he stayed in his armored van hiding for cover during a standoff with the police.

After being killed, a statement from James' family was released and was added under the Dallas shooting updates media category. The statement claimed that he was not mentally sound and would hear voices from his head.

"We tried to get him mental help numerous times, but the system failed him, because he was declared 'sane,'" said his mother, Jeannine Hammond. "He was very delusional. It was very obvious."

Adding to this, Boulware had apparently been arrested numerous times, one of which was during the year 2013 when he allegedly tried to threaten his mother and his uncle after strangling them. His threats were about killing many people in a mass shooting.

James allegedly threatened to "kill all the adult members of the family and then that's when he made the comment he may shoot up some churches and schools," said Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley, according to KTEN.

After his previous cases, his mother was able to secure custody of his son, who was at that time an adolescent.

"There were 3 family violence cases against this suspect and there apparently was some kind of custody issue, as a result of these family violence issues," Dallas Police Chief David Brown said, according to the first source cited above. "We had no other indication of this suspect threatening police officers or threatening police facilities."

"He got angry from losing his son, because he loved his son, and he never did anything to his son," added his father, Jim Boulware.

"He did not get justice," he continued. "He looked at the police as taking his son."

The Dallas shooting updates from the media will continue as the news progresses.
