Ty Lawson Trade Update: Nuggets President Josh Kroenke Talks About Recent Trade With Rockets

The Denver Nuggets recently made a deal to ship point guard Ty Lawson to Western Conference powerhouse Houston Rockets in exchange for Pablo Prigioni, Nick Johnson, Joey Dorsey, Kostas Papanikolaou, and a 2016 protected 1st round pick.

Now that might sound as a lopsided trade for Denver, what President Josh Kroenke has in mind is what value they will get for Lawson, but what would be the best for the personal life of the embattled point guard.

Although his trade stock went to an all-time low, the Nuggets believe that Lawson will be able to turn around his career with a change of scenery and a chance to win a championship next season.

"There weren't a lot of teams [interested in Lawson]," Kroenke told Yahoo Sports. "Houston was in a position where this could put them over the top. We're fully aware of that. We couldn't look at this deal from any perspective but our own."

"In the long run, I hope [the trade] is a good thing for Ty Lawson, the person," Kroenke added. "There are no guarantees. Sometimes you just need to hear the message from a different person. Sometimes a change of scenery is the best thing for all parties. That's the way we looked at this. ... I think Ty Lawson, the person, is starting to understand more so than he ever has the things he needs to do in order to keep his career on track and more importantly get his life on track."

Nevertheless, the Denver Nuggets front office deserves a lot of credit for putting Lawson's welfare first before anything else. In fact, they might get rewarded with a bright future as 7th pick Emmanuel Mudiay is showing why he was one of the most sought after prospect a year ago.
