Mexico defeated Panama 2-1 on Wednesday in a Semifinals match of the 2015 Gold Cup (Copa Oro). 

Panama, which is set to face off against the United States for third place, dominated the game and held possession for a longer span of time. Mexico, scheduled to play Jamaica in the final match of the tournament, was the underdog.

The match between the regional rivals brewed controversy among fans and players alike: American referee Mark Geiger granted Mexico two penalty shots late in normal time and extra time. Both shots led to Mexico's victory over the Central American underdog team. 

There were a total of three groups within the 2015 Gold Cup. Group A included the United States, Haiti, Honduras and Panama. Group B included Costa Rica, El Salvador, Jamaica and Canada. Group C included Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago.
