LA Clippers Guard Lance Stephenson Shares Experience With Charlotte Hornets And Michael Jordan

Lance Stephenson will enjoy a fresh start in Los Angeles and now that he's back from becoming the fourth option, he might be able to strive with his new role with the Clippers.

After a solid season two years ago with the Indiana Pacers, Stephenson struggled during his stint with the Charlotte Hornets. In an interview with Bleacher Report, he admitted that he and point guard Kemba Walker did not mesh well as both of them offers the same style of play.

"It just didn't work. I felt like me and Kemba [Walker] do the same type of stuff, and it just didn't click," Stephenson said. "Kemba is like a smaller me. He dominates the ball and he's a playmaker. And then my jump shot wasn't falling, so it was a tough season.

He also said that injuries derailed him from contributing to the Hornets and he said that it was even worse than his rookie season in the NBA.

"I had toe and groin injuries. I'm telling you, this was worse than my rookie year when I didn't even play. I was really mentally down. I was trying everything to try to figure out what I can do to help this squad."

Also, he was grateful that owner Michael Jordan was doing his best to help him succeed and get his head right.

"He was communicating with me, telling me to keep a positive head even though I had a rough year. This was one of the roughest seasons-injuries, not getting my spot back," Stephenson said. "I felt like I could help this squad, but it just didn't go the way I planned it to go.

Good thing for Stephenson though is he managed to pull out some positives during his stint with Charlotte. After being regarded as an All-Star level talent, he said that he finally have the right mind set and he does not need to feel any pressure playing for the Clippers as their current roster is stacked with plenty of options.

"It's a good learning experience and it really humbled me, because when you have high expectations, you feel like you're that guy. It made me feel like, 'Hey, you've got to keep working. Never stop grinding. Don't take this stuff for granted because playing basketball is a blessing and you're getting paid for it.'"
