Los Angeles Clippers Forward Paul Pierce Says Collapse Against Rockets Won't Happen Again

The Los Angeles Clippers bolstered their roster big time as not only did they retain the services of controversial center DeAndre Jordan, but they also acquired one of the most bonafide leader/veteran in the league in Paul Pierce.

In a press conference, Pierce said that he knew he would be a major help to this Clipper squad.

"I already knew I was either going to go home and play for the Clippers or come back to Washington,'' says Pierce, who opted out of his Wizards contract to become a free agent. "So I watched the Clippers closely.''

He added that the sudden collapse of the Clips during game 6 of their semi-finals match-up against the Houston Rockets if he was present in that locker room.

"No way - if I was in that locker room - I would have allowed that to happen,'' Pierce says. "You picture yourself being that voice or being that guy on the court that can help in those situations. I think I fill a pretty big need for them.''

He also said that it will be an extraordinary feeling to win a title with a franchise who have yet to win one since they entered the league.

"I'm trying to cement my legacy in both,'' he says. "If I could win the first Clippers' championship here, that would be pretty much storybook.''

Lastly, Pierce hinted that another benefit for playing for the Clippers is having the chance to get a front office role in the future.

"I could see that,'' says Pierce. "I could see that because Doc respects my basketball mind. Just because you play for one franchise doesn't mean you're going to be working for them. Danny Ainge is one of the fortunate ones: Look at all the great players who have been in that [Celtics] organization who are working for other organizations - look at Larry Bird, Kevin McHale. It could be Paul Pierce as a Boston guy working for the Clippers.''

Aside from Pierce, the Clippers managed to acquire Lance Stephenson, Wesley Johnson, and Josh Smith who have the potential to give significant contribution to this Clipper team next season.
